Dresden Frauenkirche

Frauenkirche Dresden

Dresden has many landmarks, but the most famous is probably the Frauenkirche, which looks back on a thousand-year history. Already the different predecessor churches were dedicated to the Mother of God and bore the name Frauenkirche. In the 18th century, the famous domed building of the master builder George Bährs, which shaped the cityscape of Dresden for two hundred years, was built. Shortly before the end of the Second World War, the church was destroyed. Its ruins remained as a memorial in the heart of the city. Today the church and the dome can be visited, you can participate in different worships or attend various other events. Further information can be found on the website of the Frauenkirche under https://www.frauenkirche-dresden.de/en/

Dresden Zwinger

The Dresden Zwinger is one of the most imposing buildings of the Baroque. Client and initiator in the planning and implementation was Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann as architect and Balthasar Permoser as sculptor are the two outstanding virtuosos who have made Dresden's Zwinger unique. The famous copper engraving Pöppelmanns to his plans has been preserved to this day.

The Zwinger building was built at the beginning of the 18th century on a square that once served as an enemy between the inner and outer fortifications of the city. Remains of the mighty fortress wall can be seen well on today's Zwinger ditch. The building as it is seen today was built over several years and in different stages of construction. Current information about Zwinger Dresden can be found at http://www.der-dresdner-zwinger.de/en/home/.

Palais im Großen Garten

Palais Großer Garten

Four avenues from four cardinal directions lead visitors of the Großer Garten in Dresden to its center - the Palais. Their extensions meet at the center of the banqueting hall in the Beletage of the building. It is an uplifting feeling to stand there and lets your gaze wander into the main axes of the originally baroque garden. The Palais im Großen Garten is considered the incunabulum of Saxon Baroque. In the time of Augustus II the Strong the scene of brilliant festivities of a European appearance, it completely burned out during the bombing of Dresden in February 1945. Even today, the damage in the war-damaged ballroom is visible.
